Oak Pegs

How and why we make our own oak pegs

The wooden nails or pegs are of upmost importance to each frame as we rely on their quality to bring each joint tight and flush. Each peg is blanked from a 12 inch knot free straight grained log to ensure superior strength.

The carpenter will blank out 1 inch squares with the traditional froe hand tool and then move to the shave horse to begin tapering the oak blanks to the 19mm peg. The pegs need to be tapered to allow the draw bored joints to pull up.
